Summary:

Referring to and under the authority of the residential and commercial foreman, the carpenter creates, installs and repairs the  elements of the building.  He performs all tasks required by his foreman in relation to the carpentry industry.

 

Exigences :

 

  • A high school diploma is usually required or a short or long professional degree in carpentry;
  • Previous experience in a similar position (construction sector) is preferable;
  • Appropriate basic knowledge (principles, practices and techniques) of carpentry is required;
  • Mastery of (practical) wood parts assembly techniques is required;
  • Knowledge of all hardware and assembly materials and accessories;
  • Operational knowledge of geometry and trigonometry;
  • Basic knowledge of building design standards and techniques;
  • Read plans or diagrams for wood-shaping work and know how to use all the field’s machine tools and portable tooling;
  • Knowledge and proper application of safety rules related to the use of machine tools and on-site work;
  • An excellent knowledge of cree language and spoken and written English is essential;
  • A functional knowledge of the French language is a decisive asset;
  • Experience in a multicultural environment is a key asset;
  • Must hold or be willing to take/provide any required training.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Involve in most work associated with the construction of residential and/or commercial buildings including: Foundations (forms), steel frames, raw frames (wood), walls, insulation, roofing, frames, doors, windows, ceilings and floors.
  • Sees the adjustment of the machinery and makes the recording of the work for the reports;
  • Performs the shaping and assembly work;
  • Sets up on-site, the manufactured elements;
  • Renovates and maintains interior or exterior carpentry, as well as handling and manoeuvring accessories or devices;
  • Provides routine maintenance;
  • Offers alternatives to improve one’s work;
  • Reports periodically and on request to his superior on the situation of his touches, the advancement of their advancement, the advancement of his goals, etc.;
  • Is called to travel and/or live for more or less long periods on the different sites of the projects;
  • Performs any other task required by his superior;
