Job Description: Superintendent
Summary:
Reporting to the project manager, the general superintendent is called upon to work on the company’s various projects. all aspects of site project management, including planning, organizing, directing, controlling and evaluating construction projects on site from start to finish.
He performs general supervision of staff and subcontractors to ensure that all tasks are carried out efficiently and safely. The Site Superintendent must be guided by a strong commitment to ensuring occupational health and safety and ensuring that staff and subcontractors carry out their tasks in accordance with policies and the procedures of La Compagnie de construction et development Cree.
Responsibilities:
- Plans, coordinates and supervises work on construction sites, from start to finish, according to the objectives and the scheduling of activities;
- In collaboration with the project manager, ensures compliance with the plans, quotes, budget and schedule of the project;
- Identify the working methods to use in order to optimize production and the work of your team
- Ensures that the company’s quality standards are respected, both in terms of materials and execution of the work, in accordance with the plans, specifications and contract requirements;
- Participate in site meetings, plan and coordinate coordination meetings with subcontractors;
- Collaborates closely with the project manager in the supervision and control of purchases for projects;
- Plans and carries out periodic monitoring of work, production and the quality plan;
- Performs adequate maintenance of the equipment for which he is responsible (requests, uses and upkeep);
- Assume the management and general supervision of subcontractors (drafting of subcontracting contracts, monitoring of work and approval of statements) and participates in the drafting of subcontracting contracts and the approval of statements;
- Assumes supervision of personnel for the execution of work associated with the projects for which they are responsible in compliance with laws, rules, regulations, company or government policies;
- Organizes and chairs internal meetings for his sector and informs his employees of developments;
- Ensures the general safety of all staff and subcontractors by carrying out checks and inspections regularly during site visits.
- Organizes a safety meeting every two weeks or during a major personnel change.
- Requests corrective action when contractual problems or non-compliant operations are carried out on site.
- Informs his superior of the progress of his projects and work, monitoring of files, monitoring of the budget, any changes to the site, etc.
- Proposes innovations to improve the work of his group;
- Is required to travel and live on different sites;
- Performs any other task required by his superior;
Requirements:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a superintendent
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Holder of the safety card on construction sites;
- Holder of a valid driving license;
- Good knowledge of Microsoft suite software and email services.
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with project team members.
- Exceptional leadership ability and a proven track record of successful negotiation with internal and external clients.
- Very good organization and ability to define priorities.
- Ability to achieve objectives in their entirety and faithfully.
- Excellent negotiation, diplomacy and conflict resolution skills.
- Very good ability to lead meetings, feedback and information sessions in order to establish consensus among stakeholders.
- Knowledge of the Cree language (asset)
- Must be willing to follow or give any required training (e.g. ISO 9001, health and safety, apprenticeship, etc.);
- Available to travel and/or live on remote or even isolated sites;
- First aid skills and/or certification an asset.
